James has been wrestling in the Lovejoy Middle School program for two years. During the winter wrestling season he practices during the last hour of school plus and extra hour after school is out. The meets and tournaments occur each Saturday during the season. During off-season they mainly concentrate on strength training and conditioning, which includes weight and cardio training. According to James the "best feeling is when your get your armed raised after the match". He also likes the fact that the coaches push him to his limits and that he can compete against average size wrestlers even though most of the time he so much shorter than his competition.
His first year (2013) was filled with mainly learning techniques and the rules of competition he only placed in a few meets. Now in 2014 his strength and technique training showed through, he placed in all of his meets and in the Middle School North Texas tournament he placed 2nd and in the Texas Middle School State tournament he placed 5th out of 20+ wrestlers in his 80lb and under weight class.
